Emirates NDB and its Shari'ah-compliant unit, Emirates Islamic have launched Chat banking services for customers via WhatsApp, marking a global first in the Islamic banking sector.
In a statement, the lender said that the Chat Banking solution, supported by Infobip, allows customers to use features such as checking account balances and temporarily blocking or unblocking of an existing card.
Wasim Saifi, the Deputy CEO - Consumer Banking and Wealth Management at Emirates Islamic, said, “Emirates Islamic will continue to develop innovative and technology-driven solutions that will enable the migration of our customers from branches to digital channels, in line with the Smart Dubai agenda.”
The lender said that all messages on its verified WhatsApp Business account are encrypted, ensuring confidentiality as well as security and to ensure a safe and secure banking experience, customers are urged to look for the green badge next to the Emirates Islamic name on the chat.
“With customers increasingly turning to online and mobile banking services, Emirates NBDs' Chat Banking via WhatsApp solution is to make banking easy and intuitive,” Suvo Sarkar, the Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management at Emirates NBD said.
